If the following error occurs on Windows 10 or 11:
It may be resolved by changing the "Force randomisation for images (Mandatory ASLR)" setting within Windows as follows:
For whole system
Changing the system-wide default setting will require a Windows restart:
- Open Windows 10/11 "Settings"
Click the "Start" button and then click "Settings" (or press the "Windows" and "i" keys simultaneously) - Click "Update & Security"
- Click "Windows Security" (in the left side pane)
- Click "App & browser control"
- Click "Exploit protection settings" in the "Exploit protection" section
- Click "System Settings"
- Scroll, if necessary, to find the "Force randomisation for images (Mandatory ASLR)" setting and set it to "Off by default"
- Confirm the change, if prompted to
- Restart Windows
For each of the downloaded apps separately
Windows restart is unlikely to be required for this option.
You can set the option to Off for each of the downloaded apps with which you're having the issue as follows:
- Open Windows 10/11 "Settings"
Click the "Start" button and then click "Settings" (or press the "Windows" and "i" keys simultaneously) - Click "Update & Security"
- Click "Windows Security" (in the left side pane)
- Click "App & browser control"
- Click "Exploit protection settings" in the "Exploit protection" section
- Click "Program Settings"
- Scroll the list to find, if present, and select each of the following in turn:
- DTS_Theory.exe
- DTS_HPT.exe
- DTS_CPC.exe
- For each of the above, click the "Edit" button and set the "Force randomisation for images (Mandatory ASLR)" setting to "Override system setting: Off" as shown in the example below:
- Click "Apply" and, if prompted to do so, confirm the change
