The "Voice over" function uses Android's "Text-to-speech" function to read the theory test questions and answers aloud.
First, check that Media isn't muted.
If the issue persists, start the app and ensure that "Sound=On" in the "Settings, Sound" screen (accessed via the cog icon at the bottom of the THEORY TEST/HAZARD PERCEPTION/HIGHWAY CODE/ROAD SIGNS component selection screen.
If the issue persists, select the "THEORY TEST" component and tap the (i) icon in the bottom left corner to show a "help" menu - tap the various menus and see if you hear a "beep" sound as you do so to confirm normal sounds play. Then back out of the "help" menus using the "<" button in the upper left corner of the screen.
If the issue persists, check the voiceover settings within the 4in1 app:
- Start the app
- Tap "THEORY TEST"
- Tap "Settings" (cog icon at the bottom of the THEORY TEST menu screen)
- Tap the "Sound and voiceover" button
- Tap the "Voiceover settings" button
- You should see the following screen:
- Tap the "Preview Voice" button - do you hear some sample speech?
Back out of the settings - If you did hear sample speech:
- Start a Practise or Mock Test session
- Ensure that the Voiceover function is "On" using the indicated icon in the upper right corner:
- Do you now hear the question being read aloud - tap the other icon in the top right corner to repeat
- If you didn't hear the sample text read aloud:
- Display the Android device's own "Settings" screen then select "General management" followed by, "Text-to-speech output" to show the screen below and tap the "Play" button:
- Do you hear the sample text read aloud? If not, there's something wrong with your Android system outside of our app.
Ensure that "English" language is included in the device's "Text-to-speech" function
